IMPROMPTU |
in partnership with Petworth Festival |
12 - 29 July 2017 |
For this year's Petworth Festival, Kevis House Gallery presents a series of works on paper by Frances Hatch. IMPROMPTU, is a body of work created and inspired by two different experiences, one whilst Hatch was artist in residence at Pavilion Dance, Bournemouth, the other as a member of Safehouse - Poole (an experimental collective of musicians and artists). Her responses to sound and movement - swiftly executed in colour and line - are vibrant and fluid, and distinguished by concise and considered mark-making on paper.
"Every movement of the musician and dancer is eloquent and particular - just as is every sunrise. The same attentiveness is required in these very different contexts." Hatch 2017. Kevis House Gallery is delighted to be working in partnership with the Petworth Festival to present this unseen body of Hatch's work, of drawings based on dancers and musicians in rehearsal which will be on show for the entire duration of the Festival. Kevis House has represented Hatch since the Gallery first opened in January 2014. Now gearing up for its 29th edition this year, The Petworth Festival presents a programme "offering a kaleidoscope of quality, notoriety, novelty and variety" as planned by the Artistic Director, Stewart Collins, and opens on Wednesday 12 July. |
"I am extremely happy to be welcoming Kevis House Gallery into the Festival’s fold as I have always wanted to represent the best of the visual arts alongside our usual focus on performance. More specifically, the inclusion of Frances Hatch’s IMPROMPTU within the festival programme couldn’t be more suited given its focus on dance. Frances’ work so wonderfully catches a dancer’s movement and beauty and I am certain her show will add yet one more memorable layer to this year’s event." Stewart Collins, 2017.
