Christmas Show
6 - 23 December
We are thrilled to be hosting our first Christmas Show, featuring a selection of works by acclaimed landscape artists, Mark Cazalet, Frances Hatch and Jonathan Newdick , from the 6-23 December.
Each artist brings their own unique style to the exhibition. In this instance, Mark Cazalet's work is influenced by woodland environments, with his pastel drawings stemming from the poem 'The Dark Forest' by Edward Thomas. Cazalet says of his own work: Capturing a sense of place requires attending to not only the empirical aspects of its topography but also subtler emotional essence, often located in associations, memories and ones own mood. Frances Hatch is inspired by the landscape around her, and prefers to work outside, often incorporating materials from the ground, such as clay and chalk, into her final work. For the Christmas show, she has created a series of images which were drawn outside at dawn or dusk, allowing her to capture the natural transition of light, and it's impact on the landscape. Huon Mallalieu, Arts Correspondent for Country Life, has said of Frances' work: Frances Hatch forages earth, clay, chalk, sand, litter and other organic matter, and uses them to create landscapes as it were from themselves. The results may be semi-abstract, but powerfully tactile. Finally, the work of Sussex artist Jonathan Newdick is similarly influenced by natural landscapes, and features rural buildings, such as barns, and distinctive trees from the local landscape, drawn in pencil and in ink, often outside and sometimes in stormy conditions. Prices for images in the show range from £350 to £2,800. A gallery of images from the exhibition can be seen on this page. Please click on an image to view it full size. Please note that a selection of unframed works will also be available. |
